CampusLately Join Roland Martin’s Initiative in Support of Raising Funds for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)

CampusLATELY is doubling down on Roland Martin’s initiative #HBCUGivingDay and is asking all HBCU Alum to take the pledge #takethehbcupledge

Houston, TX – June 19, 2017 – CampusLATELY.com the #1 collegiate community and leading college marketing firm proudly announces its support with Roland Martin’s initiative #HBCUGivingDay and is asking all HBCU Alumni to take the HBCU pledge #pledge60. The importance of the initiative is to donate money to support scholarships and research at institutions geared toward the education of minorities and first generation students. With around 70 percent of all HBCU students relying on federal grants and work-study programs to finance their studies, #HBCUGivingDay becomes more imperative.

The host, and managing editor of TV One’s NewsOne Now, Roland Martin, recently shared the importance of HBCU graduates giving back to their institutions during an interview with The Breakfast Club. According to The U.S. News & World Report, as little as 3% of HBCU Alumni give back to the university that helped shape them.

It’s time for a change, and CampusLATELY campaign is requesting that every HBCU Alumni pledge to give $60 to their Alma Mater with #pledge60. In pledging with CampusLATELY, each Alum is helping their HBCU gain additional funds. CampusLATELY has partnered with several companies to “Match” what is pledged.

“We can’t rely on public dollars to save our institutions. When the foundation says, ‘What’s the giving of your graduates?’ and they say ‘Only 3 percent of our graduates give.’ A foundation goes, ‘You’re asking me to give you $10 million, but only 3 percent of your graduates are giving?’ That means 97 percent [of graduates] are not even sending a dollar back,” said Roland Martin. “For me, we have to be about saving our institutions, building our institutions, and strengthening our institutions, whether it’s our civil rights groups, whether it’s our HBCUs, or whether it’s our economic groups.”

La’ Shawn Chambers, CEO Chambers Media & Co. said, “We “Genuinely LOVE” our Historically Black Colleges and Universities and are so proud of them, in fact, most HBCU ALUM makes it a practice never to miss a Homecoming. However, most have also never given a dollar to their alma mater.”

For the success of this campaign, CampusLATELY is also asking for sponsors to match the amount pledged by the Alumni to the top 5 schools. How does it work? Visit http://campuslately.com/pledge/ and pledge to give to your university of choice, after which you will be directed to the school you choose to complete the pledging process. Click the “Make a Donation” button and DONATE. It’s important to start now and focus on its continuity as the target for this year is $60, and possibly more next year.

We are all aware of the importance of HBCU’s, and it is your responsibility, not a right, but a requirement to help those who come after you. With this, CampusLATELY believes it’s time for all HBCU Alumni to donate to strengthen OUR institutions.
